Statement of Accountability
Land Acknowledgement
Emily is a white settler located on treaty land of the Mississauga of the Credit First Nation, and on the traditional lands of the Haudenosaunee, Wendat and Anishinaabe peoples, just outside of Toronto.
She acknowledges the importance of recognizing indigenous knowledge and history within our communities, and respects the collective responsibility we have to protect and nurture the land.
Canada is deeply rooted in its colonialist history. The systems responsible for hundreds of years of genocide continue to percolate through our society today, leaving lasting scars and open wounds on our indigenous communities.
Justice and reconciliation is only the beginning, taking the steps to learn and recognize the vast cultural history of the land, and to empower the survivors who exist to this day - is just a starting point.

Diversity and Inclusion
The call for inclusivity within the fibre community is strong, be it in size ranges to fit anyone's body, in supporting makers who are black, indigenous, or people of colour, in dismantling engrained classism, or in creating accessible online platforms and databases.
Emily C Gillies as a brand is committed to collaborating with designers and working with stores that work towards building a more inclusive and equitable fibre industry, and that match up with our inclusivity values.
